The extension of the 1960s house follows the principle of respectful continuation, carefully preserving the existing substance. The project adds a generous terrace with a recessed atrium, ensuring that the new spaces on the entrance level receive ample daylight. A newly created access courtyard is enclosed by perimeter walls, extended from the existing fabric. Towards the street, a projecting volume provides additional protection to the ground floor and layers the architectural composition in depth.
Inside, past alterations are reversed, and surfaces are restored. Spatial sequences are emphasized by introducing a continuous industrial floor finish, in keeping with the house’s original material concept. A vibrant color scheme brings harmony to the ensemble, while the simplicity of interventions reflects the guiding design attitude. Raw, natural materials are left exposed, allowing for dignified aging and the formation of a patina.
Framed views and vistas enliven the structured space, reinforcing the legibility of the original architectural idea. The extension buck4 preserves the character of the house, continues its sensitive dialogue with the topography, and takes a subordinate role. The result is a unified hole that, 60 years later, initiates a new cycle of life.
The design approach ensures the preservation of essential building substance while realizing the desired spatial expansion with restraint.
